Nutritional Counseling is a healing profession that is accurately represented by its name. With half the emphasis on food and the other half on counseling, a good nutritionist knows that eating is profoundly tied to the daily habits of our lives. Every day we make tens of choices connected to what we eat: where we shop (if we shop); how we prepare food; how much we eat; what will eat and what we won’t eat; what we drink; where we eat; with whom we eat; what we are hungry for, and the list goes on. Food can be a friend or foe. I help people make food their healthy friend.

Description

Initial Nutritional Evaluation

90 min

The primary purpose of this visit is for Susan to get to know you . . . your current lifestyle and dietary habits, your medical history, and your health goals . Susan takes a comprehensive medical and social history, helps you prioritize your goals, and gives you at least 5 recommendations to get you started.

Follow-Up Visits

45-60 min

Approximately two weeks after your initial nutritional evaluation, Susan meets with you to discuss what worked for you, to reprioritze your goals, to review the results of the computerized diet analysis and laboratory tests (if available from your physician) and to offer additional recommendations. Keep in mind that making changes to your diet and lifestyle can take time, and relapses are a frustrating fact of life! Susan encourages her clients to schedule office visits as needed for support and new ideas. Susan also knows that sticking to any health program for a whole year (not to mention a lifetime) is very difficult. So, count on a follow-up visit six months into your program to help keep up the momentum.

Telephone and E-mail Support

15-30 min

Susan is available between office visits by telephone or e-mail to answer your questions, hear your concerns, and provide moral support as you strive to achieve your goals.

Shopping Tours

Susan recognizes that changing your eating habits can be an overwhelming endeavor! To help you become familiar with new foods, Susan accompanies you to the supermarket of your choice to help you select foods that are supportive to your nutritional goals, easy to prepare, and affordable. She also provides education on reading food labels and offers meal planning and food preparation tips.
