Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce Ancestry, a solo exhibition for Philip Buller, held in conjunction with the California College of the Arts Centennial celebration. Buller received his MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts (now California College of the Arts) in 1994. Bullers figurative paintings refrain from literal interpretation, using fragments of semitransparent images coupled with organic strokes of color. A blend of realism and abstraction, the human form is obscured yet still the focal point of each piece. Figures inhabit an ambiguous space, lending a ghostliness to each painting that captures the curiosity of the viewer. ...
