Bride And Groom Meeting Prior To Ceremony

Written by: southernvisionsphoto | January 20, 2012 8:47 AM in Photographers | 136 views

As a wedding photographer, I have been asked a lot lately about the bride and groom meeting, or seeing each other, before the wedding ceremony. There are several reasons for them to meet prior to the ceremony, or as I call it, the First Meet.

At the first meet, I have the bride and groom alone, usually about an hour or more prior to the ceremony, in the church or veneu where the wedding will take place. I have the groom stand at the alter facing the alter. The bride comes down the isle and as she reaches groom, I have the groom turn around to see his bride. Again, they are alone, except for me and the videographer. After a few photographs, the videographer and I leave the couple to themselves. It is really great, they get time to see each other and take in the beauty of the bride and the entire wedding.

Here are a few reasons why this is a good idea. If the bride, or groom, get emotional, they have time after the first meet to touch up. I have found out as well, when the bride does go down the isle during the actual wedding she is much more relaxed and able enjoy walking down the isle and seeing all her friends and family and not so tunnel visioned with emotion.

Also, we can do all those family photographs usally taken after the ceremony, before the ceremony. This enables the wedding party and families of the bride and groom to arrive at the reception much quicker. Gone is the thirty to fourtyfive minutes of photos after the ceremony. That also leave about twenty minutes for me and the bride and groom to go to a location other then the venue to do some more couple photographs. I have gone downtown, to local parks, even some old barns. This give the couple some great wedding photographs we would otherwise not have time to execute.

These are just a few of the advantages of meeting prior to the ceremony. If you are a couple planning your wedding, you might want to give this idea some thought. I have had about fifty percent of the couple do the first meet. And to put to rest the old wives tale, if was not bad luck, and all those couples are still married.
