As a professional photographer, I have met with over 400 brides and booked about 250 weddings. My point in this article isn't to model what you need after Deremer Studios, or to say that every bride needs the same thing. So, outlined below are a few types of weddings and some helpful tips in getting the most out of your photography budget!
Shoe-String Budget Weddings | $0 to $500 Range
So you don't have much tp spend on a wedding - so what can you get on a tight budget? Here's what I would go for.
Start by looking for photographers that are newer to the business - but perhpas have formal training and/or at least 5 weddings under their belt
Search, Search, Search - You may not have lots of money, but you can make up for that by doing your homework - most newer photographer aren't at all the top of the search engines - so you'll have to do some hunting.
Ask to see one of their previous weddings - a whole wedding if possible to see if they fit your style
They'll often be willing to work with prices and/or trade in order to gain experience
They're also usually willing to give you full rights to the photos on CD
Moderate Weddings | $500 to $1500
Okay, so you have some funds set aside for your wedding, but you'd rather spend 30,000 on a down payment for a house instead of your wedding. Here's some good tips for getting the most:
You may not need to dig, but still do your research. At this price point, you should be able to find someone who has a signifigant amount of weddings under their belt (at least 30) and knows what they are doing.
Around this price, especially as you get higher, packages should include prints and/or an album as well as the time
Sometimes, you'll be able to find photographers that include a full rights disc of your photos too
Still make sure you see plenty of their work. If they've shot above 50 weddings, you can be pretty sure they know what they're doing - but be sure to know their style and make sure it is a match for you
With Deremer Studios (this is the mini-ad part) all our standard packages are within this price point and include a full rights DVD, prints or an album, and even a nice engagement session - plus we've shot more than 250 weddings - check it all out at www.deremerstudios.com/wedding.html
Sky's the Limit Weddings | $1500 +
You've been blessed with a wedding budget that could feed an entire third world country for 20 years and you want to be sure you're getting the best photographer out there. Here are a few steps to getting the best:
Awards and accolades tell a lot about a photographer. Make sure he has at least one or two to his name
Ask a potential photographer what sets him apart from his compeition.
At this point break, the photographer usually doesn't provide full rights to their photos, but they will include high-end options like storybook albums, engagement sessions, parents albums...
Make sure their style is wehat you are looking for. At prices like this, you can afford exactly what you want.
With Deremer Studios (this is the other mini-ad part) all our elite packages include engagement session, custom storybook album, partens albums, engagement session and full rights DVDs.
