Why Some Home Owners Should Not Paint Their Own Homes!

On some recent job here are some things that were done wrong and we have to correct. Other things just had the proper maintenance neglected.

1. Wrought Iron railing painted with flat latex house paint.
2. Concrete porch painted with what looks like house paint.
3. New plywood left unpainted and is coming apart.

On another job we found this.

1. New addition with rotted out siding because it was built wrong.
2. Flower boxes screwed to the window aprons. Major rot behind them!
3. Wood windows neglected of needed maintenance and rotted out in places.

On other jobs.

1. Aluminum gutter corners leaking and causing a lot of rot on the fascia boards and plywood. We have found this on nearly every house with aluminum gutters with inside and outside corners. This is not the home owners fault but it is something the gutter industry need to address!
2. Peeling paint do to moisture problems.
3. Caulking paint due to going too long before painting.
4. Dried out caulk that can let in water and will cause rot.

Water is a your homes biggest enemy and not its friend at all.

The main thing a home owner needs to understand is home need maintenance yearly. Even if they have a so called low maintenance home. It may be a little or a lot but if you just let it go it will cost you more and your home will not look its best. The longer a home goes with out maintenance the harder it is to clean and paint costing more money.

A home owner can do there own maintenance if they choose and are capable but please do it or better yet have it done by a pro of your choice. We would like to be your choice.
