When choosing a wedding photographer asking question always help. Things to keep in mind when choosing a small business (You and your wedding or just not a number, You are looked at as real people not just income, You receive personal attention and assistants, Independent photographers have time for you and will spend time with you, You receive great value for your money, they care about you as a person and they are flexible).
Also when choosing a small business as how many employees, what time of camera equipment. Make sure they are shooting with a (SLR) Single lens reflex. Have external flash and there (ISO) International Organization for Standardization goes pass 1600.
I only tell you this cause I have seen many say they are wedding photographers and come to a wedding with a point and shoot camera. Look for quality. Give the photographer you ideas on what you want not what they want, but also keep in mind there ideas also, we see things differently (as in lighting, shadows, etc).
When in the church makes sure the photographer can have some free range, and if flash is allowed. This goes back to The ISO.
Also let us know if you want Hi res photos on CD, want us to print the photo, photo albums. These are things to keep in mind. And if you want us all day from the time you get up and getting ready, or you just want us at the church and in between the reception and the reception
