Does this sound goofy?

"Our ceremony is going to be outside, in a feild. I want to wear heels. I'm not concerned about walking in the grass in them, but the standing during the ceremony part. I want to stand comfortably, not having to worry about putting too much weight on my heels. I don't really care for the plywood aisle idea I've been hearing (or reading through google) because I feel like it would take away from the earthy kind of mood we were going for.

What if we got a piece of plywood just for us to stand on, like a small stage? My idea was to cut it into a heart and maybe putting flowers on it, but I'm just brainstorming right now and I don't know how that would look. "

Plywood for just the two of you is the best idea. However rather that heartshape or fancy decor I would tend to wrap it in the color of the ground on which you will be standing. Astro turf comes in brown and green. If the plywood is counter sunk in to the ground area no one will even know it's there and you avoid the possiblity of snagging your dress or tripping on the edge. It will be a clean natural look.

OR - get heel protectors for your shoes to prevent you from slipping! http://thesolemates.com/

But I do like the idea of a little "stage" for you two. Could you rent a riser piece to put there and drape in some fabric? Or possible some stones like people would have in their garden that you could add to the outdoor feel of the venue with?

Another option is to wear a shoe with a wedge heel. They are much more comfortable than a spike-heeled shoe and there are so many cute shoes with this type of heel but you still need to be cautious. Grass is more uneven than a floor.

Then, for the reception, change into your "dancing" shoes!

Your "ladies" will be in the same situation. Encourage them to wear "wedge heels" while outdoors.

After all my years officiating weddings there is nothing goofy as you state. This is your special day and you should do as you want.

I agree - it's your day - whatever makes you happy is the right answer. I think a stage for the two of you is a smart idea - I would paint it or dress it up with flowers so that it blends in with your decor rather than standing out. If you want to make it a focal piece, what about a graphic design with your names and date painted on it?

Having also planned weddings in the outdoors and uneven terrain. I would see if you couldn't find a comfortable wider heel than the typical high heel, this is just a good idea in general, as you will be walking a lot that day.

As for the plywood flooring. You could wrap it in a material that matches your wedding colors, or stain it to look like darker wood flooring. I love the idea of trimming it in flowers, just like you would an aisle!

Congratulations and enjoy your new lives together.
